Tom Kastle has hosted nautical events such as maritime festivals, tall ship gatherings, and parades of sail in cities from Newport to Los Angeles combining his performing skills with a solid background of years working, hands on, aboard sailing ships. He can do event and pre event media work, particularly when that Morning Show TV crew turns up at 0530, all event staff are busy, and other captains are trying to catch some sleep. Tom can answer technical rigging questions while giving cultural context at the same time.
Tom has performed maritime music and stories at festivals and maritime institutions throughout the world including New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Poland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and more. He is a co-founder of the Chicago Maritime Festival and taught classes and workshops at multiple folk schools including the Old Town School of Folk Music for many years. He accompanies himself on guitar and concertina and can muster a small nautical band for any occasion.
Sullivan Stories from the crew of the schooner Denis Sullivan. How they got started in tall ships, how they came to sail tall ships and what voyages they’re on now. Hosted by actor, musician, and former Denis Sullivan relief captain Tom Kastle.
Tales of Charlotte Ann tells the stories of those who sailed the schooner Charlotte Ann from the 1970s to 1990s. Charlotte was launched in 1888 and worked as an oyster boat, a rum runner during Prohibition, a barge on the Hudson River, and eventually a passenger carrying vessel based out of Mystic, Miami, Chicago, and St. Thomas. She was Tom’s “first”.
